Job SummaryProvide engineering and technical support services
associated with the design, construction, and operation of
CenterPoint Energy's overhead & underground distribution system.
Essential Functions--- Review and analyze customer submitted site
plans, structural drawings, electric one-lines, schematics, and
load analysis. --- Design underground facilities for electric
service. --- Prepare cost estimates and Terms & Conditions packages
for electric service to customers. --- Inspect customer required
construction to approve/disapprove. --- Prepare work orders,
easement documents, agreement letters and operational agreements.
--- Perform cable pull analysis, protective device coordination
studies, motor start and fault current calculations. --- Interpret
and apply applicable codes and standards (i.e. National Electric
Safety Code, National Electric Code, etc.). --- Support the
construction, operations and maintenance of the distribution system
through communication with field personnel and customers. ---
Gather and analyze data, prepare written reports, give oral
presentations related to distribution systems. --- Prepare new or
revise engineering/technical specifications. --- Manage multiple
projects involving customers, contractors and internal departments.
--- Able to use personal computer software proficiently, such as
those for word processing, spreadsheets, database managers,
presentations, and electronic mail. --- Collaborate with engineers,
architects, construction personnel and other professionals to
ensure that designs meet project specifications and requirements.
--- Produce detailed documentation such as structural drawings,
parts lists, and connection diagrams. --- Perform project
management support functions associated with Major Underground
engineering resources. --- Support the construction, operation, and
maintenance of CNP Major Underground infrastructure through
communication with field personnel. --- Able to make informed
decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the
knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint
Energy. --- Able to prioritize and schedule tasks, pay attention to
detail and demonstrate good organizational skills. --- Able to
understand and follow electric safety principals and work safely
around energized equipment and environments where CNP facilities
are located. --- Able to provide and maintain a valid state
driver's license and safe driving record. --- Able to comply with
all company driver safety policy requirements. --- Able to complete
assigned Emergency Operation Plan responsibility. Education
DescriptionRequires a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering
Technology from an accredited college or university or, sixty hours
of credits in an engineering discipline and at least four years of
on-the-job technical experience in an engineering or electric
utility environment. Experience--- Familiarity with SAP, GIS,
Microstation for technical engineering applications. ---
Understanding of general engineering principals, engineering design
calculations Requirements--- Able to utilize mathematics to
complete basic design calculations. --- Able to apply knowledge and
experience to daily decisions. --- Able to apply knowledge,
experience, and personal judgment in the resolution of issues. ---
Able to communicate effectively with internal and external
engineering and construction personnel, customers, and others in
written and verbal form. --- Able to use technical engineering
applications such as GIS, SAP, ProjectWise, and MicroStation. ---
Able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Texas driver's
license. --- Able to retain, recall and/or keep a log of
